Differences between natural emery(garnet) and artificial corundum(brown croundum)

Natural emery, also called garnet sand, is a natural abrasive, which is directly mined from mines. The raw materials are screened and classified into abrasive materials without manual smelting. The processing time is short, the efficiency is high, the price is low, and it can make up for the short life. insufficient. It is widely used in sandblasting and rust removal, waterjet cutting, filter media, grinding, wear-resistant floors, etc. It is roughly the same function as artificial corundum. In appearance, it is similar to artificial corundum, also called brown corundum.
The differences are summarized as the following:
1. Natural emery has not been artificially smelted, so its service life is shorter than that of artificial emery, but the price is also lower than that of artificial corundum.
2. The chemical composition of natural emery is more complex than that of artificial emery. It mainly contains SiO2, Al2O3, Fe2O3, TiO2, MgO, FeO, CaO, MnO, etc.; the main component of artificial emery is Al2O3, and the content is higher.
3. The hardness of natural emery is slightly lower than that of artificial corundum. Its Mohs hardness is 7.5~7.9, and that of artificial Corundum is above 9.0.
Fourth, the place of origin is different. Natural emery production areas are represented by Inner Mongolia, Lianyungang, and Rizhao, and artificial emery can be produced in places with abundant bauxite resources.
5. Artificial Corudnum abrasives are more widely used than natural emery abrasives, especially in refractory and ceramic industries other than sandblasting, polishing and grinding.
