Difference between brown aluminum oxide and white aluminum oxide

Color formation and composition differences
White aluminum oxide: Made of high-purity aluminum oxide powder, the alumina content is usually ≥99%, and the appearance is white.
Brown aluminum oxide: The raw material is bauxite, and anthracite, iron filings and other auxiliary materials are added. The alumina content is about 95%, showing brown-black.

2. Physical properties
Hardness: White aluminum oxide has higher hardness (Mohs hardness 9), but brown aluminum oxide has better grinding performance due to impurities such as iron.
Melting point and stability: White aluminum oxide has higher high-temperature stability (melting point is about 2050℃), which is suitable for high-temperature environment; brown aluminum oxide has good thermal conductivity, but slightly lower high-temperature resistance.

3. Application areas
White aluminum oxide: Used in fields with high purity requirements such as ceramics, glass, and high-temperature refractory materials.
Brown aluminum oxide: Mainly used for abrasives, polishing and industrial grinding scenes, and also used for anodized aluminum plates with dark-colored designs (such as furniture decoration).

4. Production process

White aluminum oxide is made by melting high-purity raw materials, and the process is more complicated;
Brown aluminum oxide has relatively low production costs because the raw materials contain impurities.

Summary: There are significant differences between the two in terms of component purity, color formation, physical properties and applicable scenarios. White aluminum oxide has the advantages of high purity and high temperature resistance, while brown aluminum oxide focuses on cost-effectiveness and grinding performance.
