Application of Brown Corundum in Ceramic Glazes
The application of brown corundum in ceramic glazes is mainly reflected in the following aspects:
1. Improve the hardness and wear resistance of the glaze
Brown corundum powder can significantly enhance the wear resistance of ceramic glazes due to its high hardness. After adding brown corundum to the glaze, the glaze surface is not easy to be scratched or worn under friction or external force, which is particularly suitable for scenes with high requirements for surface durability such as tableware and architectural ceramics.
2. Improve chemical stability
The corrosion resistance of brown corundum is improved through modification treatment (such as chemical vapor deposition or surface coating). Glazes containing brown corundum can remain stable in acidic and alkaline environments or humid conditions, reduce glaze corrosion and peeling, and are suitable for ceramic linings of chemical equipment or outdoor architectural ceramics.
3. High temperature adaptability
Brown corundum can still maintain structural stability during high-temperature sintering, which can prevent the glaze from cracking or deforming due to temperature changes. This feature makes it a key additive in processes such as kiln-changed glazes and high-temperature artistic glazes, ensuring that the glaze layer is uniform and dense after firing.
4. Optimize the performance of glaze formula
Physical modification application: By adjusting the particle size of brown corundum (such as micronization), the fluidity and coating uniformity of the glaze can be improved, and defects such as pinholes and orange peel on the glaze can be reduced. Chemical synergy: After brown corundum is combined with the silicate component in the glaze, it can form a denser glass phase structure, improving the gloss and mechanical strength of the glaze.
5. Special visual effects
The crystal structure of brown corundum micropowder can reflect light of a specific wavelength. When used with metal oxide colorants, it can enhance the color saturation and layering of the glaze. It is often used in the field of artistic ceramics such as antique glaze and crystal glaze.
Note: The above applications need to adjust the addition ratio and processing technology of brown corundum according to the type of glaze (transparent glaze, colored glaze, matte glaze, etc.) to balance performance and cost.
Haixu Abrasive Factory produces brown corundum, and its normal sizes are:
